East Hartford CT Town Information
East Hartford Connecticut is home to one of the largest employers in the state as it is the headquarters of Pratt & Whitney, which comprises a large part of the United Technologies Corporation who’s corporate offices are in neighboring Hartford. The huge manufacturing plant takes up a significant amount of East Hartford's area, and at one time employed tens of thousands of skilled tradesmen in the aircraft engine industry.
East Hartford CT has undertaken several major development projects, including car dealerships, medical offices, and light retail. Goodwin College continues to build a large campus along the river in an old industrial sight and promises to continue developing the site.
Wickham Park, which is located in both East Hartford Connecticut and the neighboring town of Manchester, has a collection of picnic areas , gardens woodlands, ponds, and playing fields.
In 2003 Rentschler Field home of the UConn Huskies football team opened on land that was donated by Pratt & Whiney. The site which is also home to Cabela's, also known as the "world's foremost outfitter's" and a major direct marketer of outdoor merchandise in the U.S, is part of an overall development plan that will one day be home to a huge development including technology centers , entertainment venues as well as lodging and retail development.
